When you would like to work in Japan as engineers, you could work here if you get Engineer VISA(技術・人文知識・国際業務). Now there are more demands for engineers as Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced the establishment of “Digital Agency” and the government of Japan will work more to digitalize system of the nations.
But you might feel uncertainty about your future especially under the situation for Covid-19. You might think if the economic situation affects your employment.
But you also know there are some engineers who achieve what they want to do. For example, there is an engineer who started his IT business in Japan but has no concern on their VISA status while Business VISA holders have to care about financial situation of his business since it is key to extend their VISA. They have to prioritize stability over challenging.
Imagine if you would live freely in Japan and get the environment that you could do whatever you want. You might also feel you are outsiders in your workplace and community. You have to be careful when you change your job. You might have the difficulty on buying home in Japan since banks require foreign clients to have permanent residence.

The key is that he has Permanent Residence in Japan. Since He has the permission to live in Japan for life. This status will not be revoked because of financial situation of his business. There is no limitation on activities in Japan. He could whatever he wants unless he violates laws of Japan.

1. To get PR, you need to live in Japan for more than 10 years continuously.
2. They will check tax payment for 5 years.

Even engineers who thought there is no issue since their companies wrongly handle his pension, they find the issues on their pension record.

That is the point-based system. If you get more than 70 points, you could get PR with 3 years living in Japan. If you have more than 80 points, you could get PR with 1 year living in Japan.
